Botox, Dysport, Dermal Fillers, and Injectables Pre & Post Care

 

Pre-Care Instructions

Avoid Blood Thinners: Refrain from taking blood thinners one week before your injection. These include Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Garlic, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Ginko biloba, and Primrose oil.

Limit Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 1-2 days before your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising.

Plan Ahead: Bruising and swelling can occur. Schedule your procedures 2-3 weeks before any important events.

Dental Work: Do not undergo any dental work two weeks prior to your treatment.

Consider Arnica: Arnica can help minimize bruising and is available in various forms at our office.

Clean Face: Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup if possible.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: We do not administer neurotoxins or dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Neuromuscular Disorders: Do not receive Botox/Dysport if you have a neuromuscular disorder.

Eat Before Appointment: Ensure you eat before your appointment to reduce the risk of light-headedness or fainting during treatment.

Post Care Instructions

Exercise: Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.

Makeup: Refrain from applying makeup for at least 4 hours after treatment, with 24 hours being preferable.

Alcohol: If bruising occurs, continue to avoid alcohol for 1-2 days as it can exacerbate bruising.

Blood Thinners: Continue to avoid blood-thinning medications for up to one week if bruising persists.

Arnica: Some people find that continuing to take arnica can help heal bruising faster.

Monitor for Reactions: Contact our office immediately if treated areas become red or hot to the touch days after treatment.

Additional After Care for Botox & Dysport

Lying Down: Do not lie down for 4 hours after treatment.

Pressure and Massage: Avoid massaging or applying pressure to the treated area for 24 hours. If your forehead was treated, avoid wearing tight hats.

Patience with Results: It can take up to two weeks to see full results. We will not administer additional injections within this period.

Follow-Up: Schedule a follow-up with your injector after two weeks if any adjustments are needed.

Longevity: The effects typically last 3-4 months, but it is normal to see some movement return after 8-10 weeks.

Makeup: Refrain from applying makeup for at least 4 hours after treatment, with 24 hours being preferable.

Alcohol: If bruising occurs, continue to avoid alcohol for 1-2 days as it can exacerbate bruising.

Monitor for Reactions: Contact our office immediately if treated areas become red, hot to the touch, or blanched white days after treatment.

Massage Routine: Massage the treated areas five times a day, for five minutes each time, for five days (the 5-5-5 rule).

Follow-Up Treatments: Subsequent treatments should be scheduled six to eight weeks apart, depending on your injector’s recommendation. The number of treatments will vary from patient to patient.

Massage Technique: Massage the area with clean, dry hands. You may use a mild moisturizer to massage the skin.
